The Governor's Budget Proposal

Dear Members
Gov. Schwarzenegger released his 2008-09 budget proposal
yesterday. His proposal calls for 10 percent
across-the-board cuts, which include child development
programs.
Preschool California is continuing to analyze the
proposal's impacts on the state's youngest children. Please
see the Child Development Policy Institute's information
bulletin on the budget. For specifics on child development
programs, please refer to the section titled "Child Care
and Development After School Cuts Proposed" on pp. 5-6.
The governor's proposal is the beginning of the budget
discussion. In the next several weeks and months, as the
Legislature develops its budget, we look forward to working
with you to ensure California maintains its commitment to
pre-k and child development programs.
