Support Child Care and Head Start Funding

November 27, 2007

URGENT ALERT - November 29, 2007
Support Child Care and Head Start Funding

ECE Funding Cutbacks Imminent
Recently, the House fell two votes short of the number
needed to override President Bush's veto of the Labor,
Health and Human Services, and Education appropriations
bill, including the modest increases for CCDBG and Head
Start. Now, there is a danger that Congress will cut back
certain programs in order to get a revised bill passed.
The President recently rejected an offer to meet Congress
halfway, and his budget numbers would require cuts in many
domestic programs. There is great concern that a compromise
will turn the much-needed increases for Head Start (+
$153.6 million) and Child Care (+ $32.5 million) into cuts!

AEYC's Position
NAEYC and CAEYC, as well as other State Affiliates, have
taken action and signed onto the letter supporting funding
for child care and Head Start. We are asking each Local
Affiliate to also sign on if at all possible.
