Mentor Program Description

The definition of “mentor” is a wise and faithful adviser or tutor.   The concept of a seasoned Family Child Care Provider advising a new provider is an old one and  many of us have been teaching, advising and sharing ideas on an informal basis for many years. Knowing that people learn best by example, we knew that if we required a high standard of child care, we have the power to make a dramatic difference in the lives of the children we served by preparing family childcare professionals.

Professional Providers Training Institute (PPTI), a subdivision of the Riverside County Family Child Care Association (RCFCCA) is a non profit organization 501 (c) (3) designed to foster the development of licensed and licensed-exempt family childcare professionals and to train mentors in your county in an effort to increase the effectiveness in the field.

It was believed that through empowerment of family child care providers, the mentor program would raise the level of professionalism in the field, enhance the quality of services provided to the children and their families, improve attrition, assist with the best practices in early childhood development, and prepare providers for future solutions to family childcare dilemmas and Universal Preschool.

PPTI offers the following programs: Provider/Mentor Program I, Provider/Mentor Program II, Licensed Exempt Provider Program I, and Mentor Training Program. The said programs offers knowledge and skills to include but not limited to the following areas: Business Practices, Communication, Nutrition, Curriculum, Relationships, Licensing Procedures, Observations, Technical Support, and Professional Growth Opportunities. There is a Provider/Mentor Selection Process that includes an application process, interview, and references and licensing check for mentors.   Recruitment of both Mentors and Protégé’s are performed yearly through marketing and public relations. Outreach is based upon the needs of the participants. A Readiness and Training Curriculum is in placed for all Mentors and Protégé’s and is administered by qualified staff trainers.

Our program also includes a Monitoring Process and Tracking System for ongoing assessment and success. RCFCCA also has an Evaluation Process to analyze the outcome of the program and to provide information to our Board of Directors, Funders, Community Partners, and other Supporters of the Program.
